Duffy - Mercy

Catchy pop track with a little Northern Soul feel to it by Duffy. The single is so catchy that it went to number one in the UK this past week just on downloads alone. The single gets physical releases this Monday in the UK. Not sure what the rest of her stuff sounds like but if its half as good as this the full album might be worth checking out.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Dig, Lazarus, Dig

Fantastic new single from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Off his 14th CD of the same name. Hard to believe Nick is over 50. Released on 7"/CD formats this week in the UK.

Kylie Minogue Wow

I have to admit I'm a sucker for pop music and Kylie's new single is quite fantastic. Also got to love the fact that CSS, Masterkraft, and David Guetta remixes are floating around on the 12 Inch.

Correcto - Do It Better

Great band on Domino Records who released their second single last week on 7 Inch in the UK. This indiepop track is taken from their forthcoming full length self-titled release. Not as poppy as their first single Joni but just as good. If you scan further down the blog you will find a posting for Joni.

Richard Hawley - Valentine

I'm alittle late on this one. Released in the UK a couple of weeks prior to Feb 14th this is a great single from former Longpigs band member Richard Hawley off his spectacular Lady's Bridge album.

Goldfrapp A and E

The new Goldfrapp single (7", 2XCD) is out this week in the UK called A and E. Weird downtempo pop tune. Not the typical Goldfrapp sounding track but this could be a good thing. Off the new album to be released in the next few weeks called Seventh Tree.

Natasha England Iko Iko

Catchy track that hit the top 10 in the UK back in June 1982. The artist Natasha has just re-released the single 26 years later with new remixes and new versions but the classic really stands the test of time found below. Eighties Alternative classic.

White Light Parade Wait for the Weekend

Teenagers - Starlett Johansson

Another really good band on XL Recordings with their single released in homage of the Hollywood star (released back in October as a 7 Inch). Their full length, Reality Check, gets released in the UK on St Paddy's day. The full length is full of great pop tracks. The band recently made a stop in Toronto.

Vampire Weekend - Mansard Roof

It sometimes takes a second listen to get a band. This song was released on 7 Inch in the UK back in October on XL Records. I didn't get it. 3 months later I got my hands on a copy of their first full length courtesy of Ricky of Panic Manual fame and now I get it. Album full of great indiepop tracks that definately have a Talking Heads sorta feel to them as the indie mags are claiming. Vampire Weekend are back in Toronto for a sold out show at the Horseshoe this monday.

Attic Lights Never Get Sick Of The Sea

Interesting catchy indie-rock tune by the Attic Lights. This Scottish band has been releasing singles and eps since 2005 but have yet to release a full length. Their first album is due out in 2008 on Island Records.

I Was A Cub Scout - Pink Squares

Again, another re-release reworking of a brilliant indie pop single (3x7") which was originally released in November 2006 as a 7 Inch but sees the light of day again due to the release of their full length album on XL Recordings called I Want You To Know That There Is Always Hope on February 18th in the UK. And again, just like Blood Red Shoes (See below) they have a new video for the song which pales in comparision to the original video. I once again include both videos for you to decide.

Blood Red Shoes - You Bring Me Down

Blood Red Shoes rerelease their November 2006 7" single You Bring Me Down(Available on 7"x2,CD). Great indie-punk track from this duo who hail from Brighton England. The re-release of the single also brings a new video for the song. Although I have to admit I prefer the first video. Find both videos below and give me your opinion on which one is better. The bands first album Box Of Secrets is due out in April. Hopefully it will be a full representation of the seven brilliant singles that the band has released to date.

Mary J. Blige - Just Fine

Mary J Blige, in my eyes, can take the title of Queen of RNB. She busted onto the scene in 1992 with her massive hit Real Love and 16 years later is still going strong. Just Fine is the first single from her new album Growing Pains and shows us there are no real growing pains here. Great rnb club track.

One Night Only - Just for Tonight

The second single from this UK band, "Just for Tonight", takes it's main melody and progression from the OMD track Enola Gay. Jangily indiepop track that definately sounds slightly retrofitted from the eighties. Very catchy melodies on this. Released by Mercury Records (2x7",CD) and taken from their first full length album Started A Fire.
